Nasal Alar Reconstruction After Skin Cancer
This 56-year-old female was diagnosed with an aggressive basal cell carcinoma of the left side of the nose. This cancer unfortunately invaded into the structure of the nose, causing collapse of the nostril. After Mohs Surgery to resect the tumor, she was left with a large defect involving the corner of the nose (i.e. the nasal ala). A 2-stage flap procedure (i.e. nasolabial flap) was performed in addition to placement of cartilage grafts from the nasal septum deep inside the nose. After 2 planned surgeries, the aesthetic appearance of her nose was restored, and her nasal function was preserved. Results are shown at 1 year.
