When Hitting the Gym is Not Enough

Men can carry their weight in different places. The chest is a common place where unwanted fat deposits are sometimes stubborn to treat with diet and exercise. In addition, hormonal changes, dietary supplements and certain medications can cause abnormal breast tissue to accumulate in a man’s chest. Gynecomastia is the condition when abnormal breast tissue is present in addition to fat.

Gynecomastia can often be treated with a combination of procedures. If abnormal breast tissue is present, you may require surgical excision that comes with some accompanying scars. If fat is present, liposuction may be effective as an additional treatment. In cases where gynecomastia is extensive, repositioning the nipple may be necessary. Surgery is performed as an outpatient procedure and may require 3 to 4 weeks of recovery before returning to exercise is recommended. During your consultation, Dr. Pacella will work with you to determine the optimal approach for your unique situation.
