As we age, gravity takes over. Unfortunately, the effects of gravity are often seen in our breasts. Breastfeeding, weight change or having aged breast implants can compound these effects. The size, shape and contour of a bra can help improve the appearance of your breasts when you wear clothes, but outside of clothes, breast shape cannot be restored to a youthful position without surgery.
A breast lift is a specific procedure designed to restore the natural position of the nipples and reshape the breast to a new and youthful position. Sometimes performed in addition to placing a breast implant, a breast lift removes excess skin laxity through an incision that can be centered around the nipple only, forming a “lollipop” shape or an “anchor” shape. The degree of lift that you may need and the condition of your natural tissue determine the optimal choice of placement for the incision. Breast lifting can be safely performed as an outpatient procedure and recovery time is usually 2 to 3 weeks.
