Dr. Salvatore Pacella firmly believes in utilizing our talents for the betterment of the world. Since 2008, he has been heavily involved with San Diego-based non-profit Fresh Start Surgical Gifts. The non-profit organization is dedicated to providing both domestic and foreign children with comprehensive plastic and reconstructive surgical care to correct facial and body deformities.
Fresh Start’s mission is simple: to transform the lives of disadvantaged infants, children and teens suffering from physical deformities caused by birth defects, accidents, abuse or disease, and give them a fresh start in life. All procedures are performed at Rady Children’s Hospital where participating doctors can provide the extensive follow-up care these children require without the restrictions of time and space that other international healthcare non-profits are often subject to.
As a member of the Board of Directors and a Volunteer Surgeon, Dr. Pacella has touched thelives of many children and transformed their outlook on life. During Fresh Start Surgery Weekends, which are held about every six weeks, Dr. Pacella and other local San Diego doctors, nurses and volunteers collaborate to perform reconstructive surgeries for dozens of children. Each new patient is an opportunity for change for the better.
In 2010, Dr. Pacella was awarded a San Diego Heath Hero Award from the Combined Health Agencies for his philanthropy efforts. He continues to partner with Fresh Start Surgical Gifts and frequently participates in Surgery Weekends. To learn more about Fresh Start Surgical Gifts and their mission, please visit FreshStart.org .
