Nasal Reconstruction After Skin Cancer
This 73 year-old male was diagnosed with an aggressive basal cell carcinoma of the entirety of his nose. This cancer destroyed most of the layers of skin to the cartilage. After Mohs Surgery to resect the tumor, he was left with a large full-thickness defect involving the entire tip and most of the nostril area. After three planned surgeries, the aesthetic appearance of his nose was restored, and nasal function was preserved, even after requiring postoperative radiation to treat the tumors which extended to nerves. Results are shown at 1 year. One final story…every time he comes in, he calls me “Dr. Michelangelo”. Best compliment ever!
