Lower Eyelid Reconstruction After Skin Cancer

This 65 year-old female was diagnosed with a common skin cancer (basal cell carcinoma) of the left lower eyelid. It was removed through a common technique known as Mohs Surgery, which left a large deformity of the eyelid. Immediately after the removal, a reconstructive procedure known as a Hughes flap was performed. This two-stage technique involves splitting a portion of the upper eyelid cartilage to reconstruct the lower eyelid. A small skin flap is utilized to cover this cartilage graft. Results are shown at 1 year.
