This 66-year-old woman was bothered by the long, aged appearance of her upper lip and the overall elongation of her central face. As we age, the distance from the base of the nose to the upper lip often increases, leading to loss of dental show and facial imbalance.
In facial aesthetics, we often follow the 1:3 rule — the ideal youthful proportion is that the distance from the bottom of the nostrils to the top of the upper lip should be one-third the distance from the lower lip to the bottom of the chin. When this ratio is off, the face can appear tired or aged.
Dr. Salvatore Pacella performed a precise central lip lift, restoring this critical ratio and improving incisor show for a more vibrant, youthful appearance. He complemented this with fat transfer to the lips and surrounding perioral region to soften the contours, enhance volume, and round out the rejuvenated lip shape.
The result is a naturally refreshed appearance — scientifically balanced and artistically enhanced. At final follow-up, the patient’s smile and profile appear harmonious and elegant, without looking “overdone.”
