Bilateral Immediate Pre-Pectoral Breast Reconstruction with Tissue Expander Following Nipple-Sparing Mastectomy
This 43-year-old female was diagnosed with right-sided breast cancer. She decided that performing a double mastectomy would give her the most peace of mind. She was also considering a breast augmentation (to fix some asymmetries of her breasts) before she was diagnosed. The removal of both breasts was performed through a small incision on the side of each nipple. A two-stage breast reconstruction was performed with MENTOR® ARTOURA™ Breast Tissue Expanders using a prepectoral (i.e. on top of the muscle) technique. Several months later, the expanders were removed and replaced with new “gummy-bear” MENTOR® MemoryGel™ Ultra-High Profile 400 cc silicone implants. Fat transfer to the upper portion of both breasts was also performed to create a very natural contour. Postoperative result at 1 year shows excellent symmetry and shape…and she is ecstatic.
