Nasal Reconstruction After Skin Cancer

This 56 year-old female was diagnosed with an aggressive basal cell carcinoma of the right side of the nose. This cancer unfortunately invaded to the inner surface. After Mohs Surgery to resect the tumor, she was left with a large full-thickness defect involving the entire right side of the nose, parts of the cheek and upper lip. Multiple flap procedures from the forehead and cheek were used in addition to cartilage grafts from the ear. After three planned surgeries, the aesthetic appearance of her nose was restored, and her nasal function was preserved. Results are shown at 1 year.

Lower Eyelid Reconstruction After Skin Cancer

This 65 year-old female was diagnosed with a common skin cancer (basal cell carcinoma) of the left lower eyelid. It was removed through a common technique known as Mohs Surgery, which left a large deformity of the eyelid. Immediately after the removal, a reconstructive procedure known as a Hughes flap was performed. This two-stage technique involves splitting a portion of the upper eyelid cartilage to reconstruct the lower eyelid. A small skin flap is utilized to cover this cartilage graft. Results are shown at 1 year.
